The St Austell Brewery has just released information on their up-and-coming seasonal ales, announcing six new beers which will be released throughout the year.
The range includes a combination of traditional winter warmers and light, golden ales especially created for the summer season, and includes new brews as well as some modern twists on St Austell Brewery’s existing favourites.
Highlights in the St Austell seasonal calendar include the zesty Spring Brew (4.3% abv) which will be launched in March as well as Tribute Extra (5.2% abv)– the “extra special” winter version of the South West’s favourite ale, Tribute.
The full line-up of beers, including tasting notes, is as follows:
January – Ruck and Roll (4.0% ABV)
Brewed to coincide with the climax of the rugby season, Ruck and Roll is a classic 4% abv English style Pale Ale. This classic cask conditioned beer is amber in colour with a full, yet very dry, palate balanced by succulent fruity hops, with depth, structure and integrity.
March – Spring Brew (4.3% ABV)
A fresh, hoppy, delightful golden ale to welcome in the bright new season. This is a zesty brew, full of tasty tropical flavours to enliven the taste buds.
May – Royal Albert (4.4% ABV)
Named after Brunel’s bridge across the Tamar, which links Cornwall and Devon and completes a major refurbishment in 2013, the Royal Albert is a confident full malty ale, full of roasted toffee and caramel with a hint of vanilla.
July – Phoenix Ale (4.0% ABV)
A golden hoppy number in the IPA style, Phoenix Ale is a refreshing citrus beer ideal to quench the thirst on a hot summer’s day. This ale is also the brewery’s charity beer for the year with 10p from the sale of every pint going to the Phoenix Stroke Charity – a nominated charity for the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust.
September – Bucket of Blood 4.5%abv
The return of an old favourite and the perfect brew for a spooky Halloween celebration. Named after the Bucket of Blood in Hayle, this is a red ale, full of biscuit malt flavours with a balanced bittersweet finish.
November – Tribute Extra 5.2%abv
Fast becoming part of a traditional Christmas, Tribute Extra is the “extra special” version of the South West’s favourite beer. Packed full of zingy orange and grapefruit flavours with a full malt finish, Tribute Extra is the perfect treat for to warm the cockles on a winter’s day.
Head brewer at St Austell Brewery, Roger Ryman, said: “Creating a series of seasonal ales allows us to be even more experimental and innovative when it comes to brewing. Some of the seasonal ales were first sampled at our Celtic Beer Festival in November and so it’s exciting that they will now making their debut on pub bars. The new brews complement our permanent range of award-winning ales and make sure we’re continuing to stay at the forefront in the buzzing cask industry and the wider brewing business.”
