Coca-Cola has released a two minute video aimed at raising consumer awareness about the problem of obesity.
It may appear a strange tactic for a soft drink company, as soft drinks are considered one of the major contributing factors to globally increasing obesity rates thanks to their high calorie content and immense popularity especially with younger people.
Although this is true, and most soft drinks companies aim their products towards younger people getting them on the path of drinking sugary drinks early, the advert illustrates how Coca-Cola is working to buck the trend and improve its company image – working to offer more products that are lower in calories or sugar free and investing in research to find natural zero calorie sweeteners.
The campaign, which is called “Coming Together,” has been aired during peak time on television stations such as CNN, Fox News and MSNBC in the US to maximise its reach and spread the message of Coca-Cola’s work and comes in direct response to caps on soft drinks imposed in the US which has seen a restriction in the size of drinks on sale to the public in outlets such as cinemas and restaurants.
